Residents in the East of England will be safer after more than 1,800 potentially dangerous batteries and chargers were removed from sale thanks to a regional campaign by Trading Standards services from nine local authorities, including Luton Council.

Luton Council is proposing a set of necessary changes in its draft annual budget for 2025/26 to provide much-needed investment in supporting those most in need; while meeting its legal obligation to present a balanced budget.

Residents of Luton are being invited to help decide where £160K of funding will be distributed to best support their communities and local neighbourhoods.

Following an investigation by Luton Trading Standards, Faizan Nabi, aged 32 of Chatteris Close, Luton, has been prosecuted for selling counterfeit and non-duty paid cigarettes and tobacco on Facebook Marketplace.

Residents interested in pursuing a career in the NHS and healthcare sector can learn more about opportunities and training at a free event this month.
