Why do I have nil entitlement or less Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Credit from April 2021 if my income and circumstances have not changed?

In 2020/21, DWP awarded an additional £20 per week in tax credits and Universal Credit to claimants of these benefits.

This meant that Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction calculations had to be adjusted to make sure that you weren't worse off due to the additional £20, which we would normally take into consideration in our calculations.

In 2021/22, DWP have ended the awards for an additional £20 and so we have re-adjusted our calculation back in accordance to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction legislation and policies.

If you've received a letter informing you that you're no longer entitled, or are entitled to less, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction, this is correct based on the above information.

DWP have replaced the additional £20 per week with a one off lump sum payment of £500 which will be paid directly to those entitled.
