Exclusion by family or friends
You should be aware that if you do become homeless whilst living with friends or family, we will look at the reason why you have left or been asked to leave before we can offer any assistance.
This will include making consideration of any claims of poor behaviour at home which could result in a decision that you are intentionally homeless.
You should therefore do everything you can to find a solution. If there are problems, the first step you must take is to immediately make changes to try and reassure your family that there will be no further problems.
Relationship breakdown (no claims of violence)
You should seek legal advice on your rights to remain at home. If you would like further advice and guidance on housing and relationship breakdowns you can visit the Shelter website.
If your relationship breakdown IS of a VIOLENT nature, please see I need to leave because of domestic abuse in my home.
Seek alternative accommodation
You should also start looking at other options available to you. The most common option is to look for alternative private sector rentals.
You can also apply to be added to the Choice Based Lettings housing register. This will mean you're registered for social housing. Your housing conditions or any other reason can then be assessed to see if this will give you any priority.
Our housing allocations policy, tells you more about how housing decisions are made.
