06/05/2022 - Have your say on our plans for housing in Luton
We are seeking your views on a new Housing Strategy which sets out how we plan to ensure that local people benefit from good quality, affordable and appropriate housing and services.
Good housing is crucial to achieving wider ambitions for Luton 2040, our shared vision for Luton to be a healthy, fair and sustainable town, where everyone can thrive and no-one has to live in poverty.
The council and its partners are well placed to play an active role in the local housing market through development, engagement and enforcement, so that people have healthy homes and neighbourhoods they can be proud of, and specialist needs are met, supporting independent living.
We are now consulting on the new draft housing strategy for the council. We have engaged with as many organisations as possible and have identified four themes:
• Right Homes, More Homes
• Reducing Homelessness
• Quality Homes and Neighbourhoods
• Supporting Wellbeing
Cllr Tom Shaw, portfolio holder for Housing, said: “Poor quality housing for some of our most deprived residents is a significant challenge that can lead to poorer health outcomes in later life. In addition, access to secure and affordable housing is crucial to ensuring that residents can remain financially sustainable.
“We want to focus on making sure we create more affordable homes for residents and drive up standards in the quality of housing.”
