16/09/2022 - Council services on Bank Holiday Monday

HM The Queen.

Luton Council will be ensuring key services are maintained on Monday 19 September 2022, which will be a national bank holiday to mark the State Funeral for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The council’s town centre and parks street cleansing teams will be maintaining litter bins and the removal of fly tipping during the day.

Mondays are not a household refuse collection day in Luton so people’s bin collections will not be impacted next week. However, in line with other areas across the region, both of Luton’s tidy tips at Progress Way and Eaton Green Road will be closed.

There will be free parking in all council car parks all day on the Monday. However all on-street regulations and charges will apply as normal.

The Town Hall and Customer Service centre and Luton Access, Central Library will be closed on Monday, but people will be able to continue to access services through the council’s website www.luton.gov.uk

The Town Hall reception will be open to give people one last chance to sign the book of condolence for The Queen before it officially closes later that evening.

While there is no civic ceremony in Luton to mark the Queen’s Funeral a civic event is taking place on Sunday evening to mark the national Moment of Reflection. We are aware that some local establishments and places of worship will be streaming the funeral so people driving can take advantage of the free council parking.

For anyone travelling to London for the State Funeral we advise them to check the official government website for the latest details.
