Stopsley by-election on Thursday 4 September 2025

On Thursday 4 September 2025 between the hours 7am and 10pm, residents will go to the polls on to elect a Councillor for the Stopsley Ward.

Photo ID
You need photo ID to vote at a polling station
Please note that neither bank cards or images on a mobile phone are acceptable forms of ID for this election. If you do not have a photo ID, please apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC) by Wednesday 27 August 2025 at 5pm.


Postal vote handling

If you hand deliver your postal vote to a polling station or the Town Hall, you will need to complete a ‘Postal Vote Return Form’ for your vote to be counted.

You may not hand deliver more than 5 postal votes for other electors (excluding your own). If you are a political campaigner, you can only hand in your own postal vote, and those of close relatives.

  • First day for submission of nomination papers

Thursday 7 August 2025 at 4pm

  • Deadline for submission of nomination papers
  • Deadline for appointment of election agents
  • Last date for withdrawal of a candidate

By Friday 8 August 2025 at 4pm

  • Publication of statement of persons nominated, including notice of poll and situation of polling stations

Thursday 28 August 2025

  • Deadline for appointment of counting agents
  • Deadline for appointment of polling agents

Thursday 4 September 2025

  • Polling day (7am to 10pm)
  • Verification and count at Town Hall (10pm)

Thursday 9 October 2025
Deadline for return of election spending returns
