Thousands are expected to turn out to celebrate Luton Town Football Club’s promotion to the Premier League this Monday (29 May) and a number of roads and bus services will be affected.

The event will include an open-top bus tour leaving Kenilworth Road at noon, due to arrive in St George’s Square at 12.15pm.

Players and officials will then join the Mayor on stage for short celebratory speeches and interviews before they attend a civic reception in the Town Hall. Live music will be playing and large screens will display this season’s highlights. Full details can be found on our Come and paint the town orange article.

For the safety of staff and supporters, the following roads will be closed from 6am to 6pm on Monday (29 May):

  • Guildford Street
  • Bridge Street
  • Gordon Street
  • Alma Street
  • Alma Link
  • Manchester Street
  • George Street
  • Upper George Street
  • Wellington Street
  • Dunstable Place
  • New Bedford Road (junction with Luton-Dunstable Busway)
  • Oak Road (9am to 3pm only)

Bus stop alterations

All Galaxy Centre stops will be closed for the day. Instead, services will operate from the Luton Interchange with notices placed at stops to remind passengers where to go.

The busway is unaffected during this period and direct access from the busway to the interchange will be maintained.

Emergency access

This will be maintained at all times for emergency service vehicles.

Car parks

Major car parks within the town centre will be unaffected by the closures, but they are likely to be busy. Where possible, we are asking supporters to leave their cars at home and use alternative forms of transport to come into the town.
