29/06/2023 - Read. Respond. Register.

In line with last year’s success of the campaign ‘Read, Respond, Register’, this year we have re-launched it in order to inform residents of the voter registration emails and letters which we are sending out from 3 July.

The process, called the Annual Canvass, aims to remind individuals to make sure they are on the electoral register. Through this the register is updated as necessary in order to identify the residents who are not registered to encourage them to do so.

This simple process asks people to confirm their details and allows for them to be amended if necessary, which can be done by post or online.

Robin Porter, Electoral Registration Officer at Luton Council, stated “Read. Respond. Register focuses on making sure that people are on the electoral register.”

“It’s important that residents make sure that we have their correct details on the electoral register”.

If you’re not currently registered, your name will not be a part of the messages we send. If you want to register, online registration at Register to Vote is considered the easiest, or we can send you information explaining how to do this in the post.

Being on the electoral role allows people to vote in other elections plus credit companies look at the register in helping them make decisions about lending and not being on it can negatively affect ratings.

It is important that those who have changed their address to make sure this has been updated to their current address on the register.

Read. Respond. Register. It only takes a few moments and ensures you can take part in the democratic process whether for the first time or it is a standard practice.
