20/09/2023 - Putteridge Primary School students raised over £1,000 for the British Red Cross Moroccan Earthquake Appeal
600 children attended school in their home clothes to raise money.
On Friday 15 September 2023, Putteridge Primary School in Luton held a non-school uniform day in aid of the British Red Cross Moroccan Earthquake Appeal. On the day, almost 600 students attended school in their home clothes, and managed to raise a staggering £1,082.57 to aid in the relief efforts in Morocco after the 6.8 magnitude earthquake on 8 September.
All students in Key Stage 2 attended an assembly about the British Red Cross, the charity’s work and how their money would help. They were also tasked with coming up with some ideas about how their money could be used, including what materials, resources, supplies and personnel it would be used to facilitate.
Mr Pickard, Putteridge Primary School Head teacher, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled with the over-whelming generosity and support of our school community towards this cause. We are delighted that Putteridge Primary School is able to help make a difference during a very difficult time for those affected by this disaster, including families who are part of our school.”
This shows once more why Luton is statistically one of the most generous towns in the UK, after being named third place for this title by Just Giving in January 2023. The generosity starts very young in Luton, and the town is proud to house such kind citizens.
