07/02/2024 - Official launch of Luton Family Hubs - making it easier for families to get the support they need

Luton Family Hubs, a town-wide partnership offering help and support to families, from pregnancy up until their children are 19 years or 25 years for young people with special educational needs and disabilities, will officially launch next week.

Family members can now access friendly, helpful teams of local experts and community specialists offering free parent and child sessions, information, advice and guidance in one of four family hubs sites at: Park Town Family Hub, Hockwell Ring Community Centre and Family Hub, Flying Start Family Hubs at Pastures Way Nursery and Foxcubs Nursery. They can also receive support online or by phone.

Councillor Khtija Malik, Portfolio Holder for Population Wellbeing, said: “Whether you’re thinking about starting a family, expecting a child or you are simply looking for support and reassurance to make sure you are on the right track, our friendly teams are here for you. And with a range of services under one roof it’s making it even easier for families to access vital services that they need.”

Luton Family Hubs will be officially declared open by the council’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Zanib Raja at an event to be attended by key partners and stakeholders on Tuesday 13 February, followed by free activities for families on:

Wednesday 14 February, 10am - 3.30pm at Park Town Family Hub, Bailey Street LU1 3DU

Thursday 15 February, 10am - 12pm at Bushmead Community Hub, Hancock Drive, LU2 7SF

Thursday 15 February, 1pm - 3.30pm at Hockwell Ring Community Centre and Family Hub, Mayne Avenue, LU4 9LB

Friday 16 February 10am - 2pm at Luton Central Library, St George’s Square, LU1 2NG

Refreshments and free goody bags will be provided during the week and families will get the chance to talk to our friendly team to find out more about what family hubs can offer.

Christine Rogers, Flying Start Implementation Manager (Early Years Alliance) said: “Building the Luton Family Hubs framework on the existing strong partnership work of Flying Start is a real strength, with Flying Start already seen as a trusted brand.  The Early Years Alliance are proud to have supported the delivery of Flying Start services for families in Luton, over the past 10 years.  It is now with a sense of pride that we move to the next stage under the Luton Family Hub banner, building on the Flying Start legacy.”

Nicky Poulain, Chief Primary Care Officer, Bedfordshire Luton and Milton Keynes ICB said: ”We know how important early guidance and support is for families to help ensure children thrive throughout their lives into adulthood.  The family hubs are an excellent example of how services working together can provide this invaluable help and I would urge families to visit the teams ready to offer support.”
