​The votes cast in the Barnfield Ward and Wigmore Ward by-elections have been counted and the results announced.

Anwar Malik (Liberal Democrat Party) has been elected as a councillor for Barnfield ward.

Adrees Latif (Liberal Democrat Party) has been elected as a councillor for Wigmore Ward.

Results

Barnfield

  • Ash Ali, The Conservative and Unionist Party – 209 votes
  • Edward Carpenter, Green Party – 110 votes
  • Anwar Malik, Liberal Democrat Party – 1,169 votes
  • Karen Roy, Labour Party – 321 votes
  • Marc Scheimann, Independent – 32 votes
The overall turnout was 19.8% per cent.

The number of verified votes cast was 1,848.

Wigmore

  • Farid Ahmed, Labour Party – 137 votes
  • Carolyn Cottier, Independent – 209 votes
  • Elissa Brooke Gordon, Green Party – 125 votes
  • Adrees Latif, Liberal Democrat Party – 749 votes
  • Philip James Turner, The Conservative and Unionist Party – 151 votes
The overall turnout was 19.5 per cent.

The number of verified votes cast was 1,373.

The final count took place at the Town Hall and concluded at 11.55pm, Thursday 26 September 2024.

Robin Porter, Returning Officer for Luton said: "This by-election was made necessary due to the resignations of two serving councillors for heath and family reasons. My thanks to our staff at all 11 polling stations today and those at the count at the Town Hall this evening. 

"My congratulations to Councillor Anwar Malik and Councillor Adrees Latif and I would also like to thank all those that turned out and voted."
