30/11/2022 - Help shape Luton's Sport and Physical Activity Strategy

Luton council is inviting residents to help shape its Sport and Physical Activity Strategy by completing a short survey that opened at 9am today (Wednesday 30 November).

The strategy will set out the council’s priorities and will aim to improve physical activity participation, while reducing inequalities in activity levels.

Luton residents are being invited to share:
  • how active they are
  • why it’s important to them to be physically active
  • what activities people participate in
  • what barriers might prevent them from being active
Views and comments received during the consultation will help council officers to get a clearer picture and understand what residents want and see as priorities. This first phase, twelve week consultation, which includes a survey and a series of face to face events to gather views, will further develop the draft strategy and the second phase, will see the document being considered by the Council’s Executive and then eventually, once approved will be adopted later in 2023.

Cllr Khtija Malik, Portfolio Holder for Public Health and Wellbeing said: “I am absolutely committed to ensuring that our Luton residents have the opportunity to be active, regardless of their background or ability. I appreciate that the past twenty four months, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for everyone, with the most vulnerable families and children more likely to have been disproportionately impacted, which consequently has an effect on their health and wellbeing.”

“Unfortunately, physical inactivity still remains high within Luton especially among the adult population. I am hoping that the responses to this consultation will give the council the insight they need to ensure that the new refreshed strategy will meet the needs and wants of the community in Luton.”

“I would urge everyone to complete the survey, all comments and feedback received will be used to shape and finalise the strategy, this is a real opportunity for residents to have their say and help to support an active and healthy town.”

Find out more and complete the survey. It opened on Wednesday 30 November 2022 and will close at midnight on Wednesday 22 February 2023.
