16/09/2022 - Do something life changing – start your career in care
Looking for a new role where you can truly make an impact? Do you want to help transform people’s lives? Then why not consider a career in adult social care?
Come along to Luton Council’s adult social care recruitment event on Saturday, 24 September from 10am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 4pm at Youthscape, 74 Bute Street, Luton LU1 2EY, to find out more.
There are a number of different roles within adult social care which make a real difference to people’s lives, from social workers to occupational therapists to care assistants and support workers.
At the recruitment event you can speak to staff who will tell you what their roles are really like and you will be able to see the current vacancies that are available. We’re looking for both qualified and non-qualified, those with experience and people who are completely new to care. With all roles we offer flexible working, generous annual leave, local government pension as well as access to development courses, mentoring and support.
Cllr Javed Hussain, Portfolio Holder with responsibility for adult social care, said: “We have amazing staff who are committed and dedicated to making a positive impact on residents’ lives every day. From helping an elderly or disabled person to become independent in their own homes to supporting an individual to undertake social activities to alleviate loneliness and to help them feel part of a community.
“If you have the ability to treat others with respect, can listen to people’s needs and provide empathy and are able to work as part of a team, come to our adult social care recruitment fair and we will help you find the role that’s right for you.”
A member of staff who has undertaken different roles in care remarked: “In my many years of working at the council, I have had great opportunities to develop my skills and work with great teams. I have loved supporting and motivating many older people through both happy and difficult times in their lives and have learned a lot from them. And working with people with a learning disability has made me feel young again!”
An Advanced Practitioner also commented: “I joined Luton Council adult social care in 2013 as a newly qualified social worker on the assessed and supported year in employment (ASYE) programme, so I had support to develop my skills and knowledge.
“The job offers challenges but that means I learn and develop really fast. The career pathways are really good and progressive. I receive continuous professional development and extensive training opportunities. I would recommend Luton to any social worker who wants to grow and develop in their career where you are encouraged, coached and mentored.”
