Luton Borough Council
25/05/2022 - Council Executive changes
At the annual meeting of the council held last week on 17 May, changes in the council’s Executive were announced and approved.
Leader Councillor Hazel Simmons MBE, made the following announcement regarding the composition of the Council Executive.
New members appointed were Fatima Begum who takes over the portfolio for Sustainable Development and Highways and Maria Lovell, who takes over Neighbourhood Services and Community Safety.
Councillor Rob Roche is now the portfolio holder for Finance. Councillor Andy Malcolm, who joined the executive in 2015 is standing down from this role, but remaining a Ward Councillor for High Town.
All other members of the Executive remain in their posts.
Councillor Simmons said: “As a council we are committed to delivering the Luton2040 vision of a town where everyone thrives and no one lives in poverty. Our role as Executive is to lead and drive this through to the best of our ability. I believe those appointed to serve in these roles are the right people to carry us through the next challenging, but exciting phase in achieving this goal for all the people of the town.
“I particularly welcome Fatima and Maria who will bring great energy and purpose to the team. Sadly for Luton, Andy Malcolm, who has served so well in his role as portfolio for Finance, will be stepping down from this vital role to be replaced by Rob Roche. I am sure Rob will do a fantastic job – just as his predecessor has done and I would particularly like to thank Andy for all his dedication and hard work over the years.”
Councillor Sameera Saleem was elected Mayor and Councillor Asif Masood elected Deputy Mayor. Both councillors will be formally appointed at the mayor-making ceremony on Tuesday 14 June.
