Luton Borough Council
22/11/2024 - Consultation launched on transport plan for Luton
From this week people across Luton are being invited to have their say on future plans for transport in the town.
The council is developing its fifth Local Transport Plan (LTP5), which will set out the policies and infrastructure needed to make getting around easier, healthier and better for the environment. The plan’s vision is for well-integrated and accessible transport to allow for green inclusive economy growth, support net zero carbon targets by 2040, improve travel choice and benefit people’s health and wellbeing.
To help develop the plan the council would like to hear from Luton’s residents, businesses and visitors for their views on how they currently travel in Luton, existing transport issues and future transport opportunities.
Councillor Javed Hussain, portfolio holder for Transport at Luton Council said: “We want a plan which will reduce carbon emissions, create a healthier Luton by encouraging more walking, cycling, use of buses and trains.
“The LTP5 is an important document which reflects our commitment to meeting the needs of the growing community whilst prioritising sustainability by enabling more opportunities for active travel, public transport and journey sharing.
“Because transport has a significant impact on our local environment it’s important, we have a Local Transport Plan that works for Luton. That’s why it’s vital we know how people travel and why they make the travel choices they do for a range of different journeys”.
Feedback from the consultation will be collated and used to inform the next stage of our Transport Plan.
The survey is available on the council’s Let’s Talk consultation portal.
This survey is expected to take less than 5 minutes to complete. The closing date for responses is 5 January 2025.
