06/04/2023 - Candidates announced for May elections

The official list of candidates for the upcoming local elections on Thursday 4 May has been declared.

This year’s elections will see a number of differences from previous ones.

The number of councillors elected will remain the same, but following a review by the electoral commission the number of wards has increased by one to 20.

Nation-wide changes mean that everyone who votes in person on the day will now need to show photo identification, such as a passport or drivers’ licence.

Alternatives for those who don’t have them can be found here.

Voters can also get a free voter authority certificate if they don’t hold any form of photo ID.

For those not voting in person it is possible to vote by post or by proxy (appointing a trusted person to vote for you).

All those eligible to vote must ensure they are registered by 17 April.

See the full list of candidates.

There will be no poll in Farley on Thursday 4 May as the election in that ward is uncontested. The polling stations will not be in use on the day. We will write to everyone in the ward who has been sent a poll letter.

The new councillors for this ward will be councillors Mahmood Hussain, Dave Taylor and Javeria Hussain, who are all Labour Party candidates.
