2019 Pilot Year of Culture

Pilot Year of Culture The programme for People Power Passion, our Pilot Year of Culture has been launched. Check out www.peoplepowerpassion.co.uk to read more.

The strategic vision for the arts, cultural and creative industries in Luton 2017-27, includes plans for a bid to be named UK City of Culture in 2025.

This process will generate footfall into the town which will not only benefit local businesses, contributing to the Luton Investment Framework programme attracting £1.5 billion into the town, but will create a real buzz and celebrate the creativity, vibrancy and diversity of Luton.

As part of the bid process, we're embarking on a pilot programme with a theme of people, power and passion. 2019 will mark 100 years since the Luton peace day riots, and the pilot programme will explore the themes of the 1919 riots, evaluating the impact of arts activity on the people and places of our town.

The performances, events and artworks are being developed by, with and for the people of Luton, in partnership with world-class artists. Following the chronology of the lead up, events and aftermath of 19 July 1919, People, Power, Passion will pop up around the town with a series of participatory arts events.

Individuals, groups, artists, communities and businesses are invited to get involved: join the ambition to put Luton on the national and international stage and make it an established cultural destination.

Get involved

People, Power, Passion is a programme made by, with, and for the people of Luton. You can get involved in shaping the story, creating the story and supporting the story.

Shape the story - share with us your stories of people, power and passion. We’re interested in hearing from people who have stories to tell that resonate with the theme, whether your grandmother was involved in the riots in 1919 or you’ve been involved in a modern example of community action.

Create the story - there are many ways to get involved with People, Power, Passion as an artist, creative or participant. Roles for associate artists, trainees, performers and participants will be advertised soon. See below to sign up to our mailing list to be the first to be notified about these opportunities!

Support the story - there will be a variety of rewarding volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, who are enthusiastic and have a desire to meet new people, try something different and be involved in the most exciting programme of 2019.
