Youth Participation

Youth participation is a way of encouraging children and young people in to get involved in the decisions that affect their lives and to influence these decisions. It also helps you learn more about yourself, the world around you and how you can make positive changes for you and other children and young people with care experiences.

The information on this page is for children and young people with current or former care experiences, foster carers and professionals working with children and young people with care experiences. There are lots of ways to get involved and have your say. You can check out some them below:

Children and young people with care experience can have their say on the support services that the Council and its partners provide to them. This could be from health services such as physical or mental health to places to live when you are leaving care.

This a friendly youth group where we have ‘fun first’. Sometimes we will talk about your experiences to help senior leaders make things better for you and other children and young people. Ask your social worker, foster carer or independent reviewing officer for more details.

We run regular trips and activities during the school holidays. You can join us and have your say that way too. We’ve been to adventure parks, theme parks and ice skating to name a few! Ask your social worker, foster carer or independent reviewing officer for more details.

Children and young people with care experiences can help who the council recruits. The people who will be running or providing services for them e.g. managers, independent reviewing officers (IRO) and others. Ask your social worker, foster carer or independent reviewing officer for more details.

If you want to get involved in any of the Participation opportunities, we would love to welcome you on board. You can email [email protected] or call (07734) 371934. Or ask your carer or social worker if they can do this for you.
