Luton’s Virtual School: Carers

 

Working with the Virtual School

The virtual school are a team of people who work with the childs school, social worker, carer, and other professionals helping young people in care reach their full potential and help improve life chances.

Our team works with schools, social workers, and carers to help young people succeed in education by:

  • raising educational attainment and aspirations
  • narrowing achievement gaps between young people in care and their peers
  • supporting mental health
  • helping to support children's ability to self-regulate and engage in education

Luton fostering service provides year-round training sessions. If you need specialist support, resources, or guidance on working with the virtual school.

Attendance support

If attendance becomes an issue, contact your school and virtual school advisor for support. We provide:

  • guidance on overcoming attendance barriers
  • links to professionals and training

Your virtual school advisor can help to:

  • engage you with your child’s education
  • clarify your role in decision-making
  • attend PEPs to discuss needs

Supporting your foster child’s education

As a foster carer, you can support education by:

  • ensuring daily school attendance
  • talking about school experiences and career aspirations
  • encouraging after-school activities
  • attending pep meetings and school events
  • providing learning resources and promoting safe internet use
  • praising achievements and fostering a love for learning
