In April 2018 the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published new figures on avoidable mortality based on data from 2016.

You can read about the new figures on avoidable mortality here.

There are many factors in health and health outcomes. In 2016, approximately 24% of all deaths in the UK were considered avoidable. Luton has a higher level of avoidable deaths when compared nationally.

The first download below details how Luton compares nationally for avoidable deaths.

There is a further download, which was produced by Public Health England's Epidemiology and Surveillance team and provides information on the causes of death that are driving inequalities in life expectancy in Luton.

Luton Public Health teams are targeting the causes of death which contribute most to the life expectancy gap which should have the biggest impact on reducing inequalities. Further information can be found on the Public Health England website.
