15/08/2023 - Business leaders join the call for Luton to become the next ‘Good Business’ hotspot

The Federation of Small Business (FSB) is encouraging small enterprises in Luton to get involved in a push to become the UK’s first Good Business Charter town.

This is a great opportunity for small businesses to stand out from the crowd through Good Business Charter accreditation. Treacle Factory becomes one of the first to answer the call.

The Good Business Charter (GBC)

The GBC encourages and recognises responsible business practices. We have already been accredited and are now looking for other local businesses to follow suit. As Luton is making its push to become the first GBC town, local businesses will be under the spotlight on how they treat the environment, their employees and suppliers.

Due to this spotlight, it is important for local businesses to demonstrate to current and potential customers that their business is committed to operating responsibly. This comes in response to polling that found 97% of consumers think it is important for a business to act responsibly.

Even the smallest business can sign up due to a streamlined version adapted by the FSB and GBC for businesses with fewer than 50 employees. As Luton’s business makeup is majorly composed of micro businesses and SMEs, the importance of the charter providing a clear framework for businesses of all sizes is incredibly relevant for the town.

For further information about the Good Business Charter, we are happy to support businesses looking to achieve the accreditation. If you are interested to find out more, please contact [email protected] or visit the GBC website.

Ian Abrahams, director of Treacle Factory in Luton has joined the calls for more organisations to sign up. He said: “We are passionate about providing an outstanding level of customer service and strive to achieve the best in everything we do. We heard that Luton Borough Council were encouraging more organisations to join the Charter and wanted to be among the first to register.

We found that our values are closely aligned with the ethos of GBC and decided to join without hesitation. Our GBC accreditation is proudly displayed on our offices, on our website and in email signatures, to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to excellence.”
