School Holiday Meals voucher scheme

Free meals during school holidays

Funding has been secured under the Household Support Fund provided by the DWP to provide vulnerable households peace of mind. The funding will help families and their children to be well fed in the school holidays.

We have issued schools with funding to provide parents of children who would usually receive a FSM with a supermarket voucher to cover their meals over the school holidays.

Children who attend Private and Voluntary Nurseries and are entitled to Early Years Pupil Premium can also receive their school holiday meals vouchers. To request your voucher please call 01582 510346.

Meals vouchers will automatically be issued to eligible children who qualify for FSM.

Pupils in nursery school, reception and years 1 and 2 who receive FSM will not automatically be issued with meals vouchers for the school holidays unless:

  • they've made a successful application for FSM or Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)
  • they qualify under the low income criteria

If you believe that your child qualifies under the low income criteria for EYPP please read the information in the tabs below.

Children who attend Private and Voluntary Nurseries and are entitled to Early Years Pupil Premium can also receive their school holiday meals vouchers. To request your voucher please call 01582 510346.

You'll receive a voucher for each child sent via text or email from each of your children’s school.

If your child is entitled to FSM or EYPP under the low income criteria, your school will automatically issue you with these vouchers either by email or by text message to your mobile phone.

The following supermarkets will accept the vouchers:

  • Aldi
  • Asda
  • M&S
  • McColl's
  • Morrisons
  • Waitrose
  • Tesco

The voucher should be used to purchase food to support your family.

You should use the voucher to purchase food in order to provide meals for your family during the holiday.

The voucher is provided for the purchase of food. It is important the voucher is used for this purpose so that you can provide meals for your family during the holiday.

Vouchers should not be spent on products such as alcohol, tobacco, mobile phone top ups, gift cards or lottery tickets.

Supermarkets can refuse to accept the vouchers for these items.

Please visit the HUGGG website for guidance on how to use your voucher, what to do if you have any problems and other frequently asked questions and answers.

Families with children in reception and years 1 and 2, who receive FSM will not automatically be issued with meals vouchers unless they've:

  • made a successful application for free school meals
  • qualify under the low income criteria

All eligible children will be sent their vouchers by their schools. If you do not receive a voucher, please contact your school.

If they confirm that is because you're not currently in receipt of FSM and you would like to check your eligibility, you should make a claim for FSM online as soon as possible.

If you wish to check your entitlement to free school meals or to make an application please visit: luton.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals

Families with children in nursery school who receive FSM will not automatically be issued with meals vouchers unless they've:

  • made a successful application for EYPP
  • qualify under the low income criteria

For further information on whether you qualify under the low income criteria and what to do next please visit: luton.gov.uk/eypp.
