28/08/2020 - Join the Great British September Clean and help tidy our parks
The Great British Spring Clean might have not have gone ahead in March and April due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean it’s not happening at all.
Instead, Keep Britain Tidy have launched the Great British September Clean (GBSC), linked to the Be Kind to our Parks campaign which has been running over the summer months.
GBSC will run from 11-27 September and we’re encouraging residents to join us in their household groups or social bubbles, and take part in our socially distanced litter picks, along with local organisations and other volunteer groups.
Those interested in taking part are invited to join on:
• Saturday 19 September: 10am-12pm at Wardown Park
• Wednesday 23 September: 10am – 12pm at Stockwood Park
In addition, Luton BID will be holding a town centre tidy-up at the end of September.
Councillor Castlemann , Portfolio Holder for Parks , said: "During these unusual times we have seen a disappointingly large increase in the amount of litter left in our parks. As a result, we have been working with Keep Britain Tidy, participating in a new national litter campaign to raise awareness of the increases in littering and anti-social behaviour and encourage visitors to change their behaviour.
“You may have seen the eyecatching posters in Wardown Park that help to reinforce that message; that there is no excuse for leaving rubbish in our beautiful parks. We should all do our bit to keep Luton tidy and take pride in our town.”
In order to keep everyone safe, manage numbers and adhere to Covid-19 regulations, you will need to register your place by emailing [email protected] If you would like to register places for other members of your bubble or household, please indicate how many places you are booking for and give their first names when responding.
We’ll be supporting you to litter pick by providing the equipment for you to do so in your socially distanced groups. Please bring masks and hand sanitiser with you.
Details about how to register for the town centre tidy up will be released by Luton BID later this month.
