12/01/2021 - Is your child due to start school in September 2021?

If you live in Luton and your child was born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017 you must apply for a statutory school place by 15 January 2021.

You should have received an information letter from Luton Council’s Admissions Team. The letter contains important information on the admissions process and details how to apply online or obtain an application form.

It is essential that you apply for a school place by 15 January 2021. If your application is late your chances of getting a school of your preference is much more limited. Parents and carers can apply online. This is the quickest method of applying for a school.

Cllr Aslam Khan, portfolio holder with responsibility for Education in Luton, said: “Starting school is such a key milestone for young children so it’s important that parents do everything they can to get their child to attend a school they have selected for them.

“It is important parents read the admission booklet, paying particular attention to the schools’ oversubscription criteria, to find out the likelihood of gaining a place at their preferred schools. Parents must ensure they state three different schools on their application, ensuring that at least one preference is a realistic option. Don’t wait to the last minute to apply, if you haven’t already done so, do it now!”

If you have not received a letter or you can’t apply online contact Luton  Council’s Admissions Team as soon as possible by ringing 01582  54 80 16, Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm.

The council is also seeking your views on the proposed admission arrangements for Luton community schools from September 2022. You can access the consultation on our consultation hub .
