12/11/2021 - If you care, why not care?

During Covid we saw a huge public response to step in and ensure our most vulnerable were looked after, with thousands of people volunteering. It showed a nation of caring people.

Unfortunately Covid has had a huge impact on job security in many businesses and many people have lost their jobs.

But not in social care, where there are many fantastic opportunities for people

The essential role of Home Carers supports anyone who wishes to remain living at home but requires additional support or care to continue to live an independent, healthy and fulfilling life.

Have you ever considered a role in home care (known in the profession as Domiciliary Care)?
  • either as a change in career
  • starting your career
  • or a way of adding to your income
  • or just because you have some time you want to spend doing something rewarding that makes the world of difference to others
Maybe you have never thought about being a carer because you have some preconceived ideas about the role like:
  • only women are carers
  • you need to be able to drive
  • you need to be qualified
  • you do long hours
  • you have to work evenings
  • you have to be full time
None of these are true. The truth is that it is a varied, flexible and exciting career.

Roles could include supporting someone to get up safely in the morning, preparing a light meal to ensure they have eaten, supporting them to take medication and for some maybe supporting with their personal care.

Councillor Javed Hussain, portfolio holder for Adult Social Care, said: “For a great deal of time and most particularly in the past two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have appreciated more than ever before the importance of carers and the amazing work they do looking after some of the most vulnerable people in our society. It is a challenging career, but immensely rewarding as it makes a genuine difference to individuals at a time when they need it most.
