Robin Porter, Chief Returning Officer for Luton said: "The coronavirus pandemic has created significant challenges for these local by-elections. Since the announcement of the election date the council’s election team has made voter safety its number one priority.

Residents have been encouraged to consider voting by post and we have seen a significant increase in the numbers of people choosing to vote in this way.

"Many people have worked tremendously hard, not just in the last two days, and am I pleased to say that, despite the challenges, this has been another successful day for democracy in Luton."
