Have you claimed your business grant? - Luton Council

Some small businesses and those in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors in Luton still haven’t claimed the Government grants they are entitled to.

Administered through the council, the person recorded as the ratepayer will get either the Small Business Grant (SBG) or one of the two Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grants (RHLG). A letter or email was sent from us in the last few weeks informing them that they qualify and it explained that in order to receive the grant, they must complete the online form to enable the council to process the payment.

Along with letters and emails the council has issued fortnightly electronic newsletters to around 3,000 local businesses and communicated through the Businesses Advice section of the website and through social media. Despite this not all those entitled to the grant money have claimed the funds.

Cllr Sian Timoney, portfolio holder responsible for economic development and business support said, “We are working hard to get the money out as quickly as possible to all those eligible and we are really pleased that so far over £15m has been paid out. However, there are a number of businesses that we still haven’t heard from and we urge them to get in touch.

“If they have a small shop which has been shut since the Government introduced the closure of all but essential businesses last month we are asking them to check their property as they may have missed this important letter. We also ask them to check if they have given us the most up to date contact details including email address. It’s vital that everyone entitled to the grant money gets it as soon as possible.”
