09/09/2022 - HRH Queen Elizabeth II 1926 - 2022

HM The Queen.

It was with great sorrow that we learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Our thoughts, prayers and sincere condolences are with the Royal Family at this very sad moment.

It was a privilege and an honour to host Her Majesty in Luton on a number of occasions and we join the
nation in mourning the loss of a leader who exemplified kindness, dignity, warmth and devotion to others.

Earlier on Thursday, alongside the Council’s Chief Executive, Robin Porter, we showed our respects by placing a wreath on the Town Hall steps. Anyone wishing to lay a floral tribute in this way is invited to do so.

A book of condolence is now open in the reception area of the Town Hall. The reception area will subsequently be open every day, including weekends, from 9am to 5pm.

There is also a national online book of condolence.

The nation is currently in a period of ten days of mourning and consequently all council events and committee meetings due to take place during this period have been cancelled.

The Union Flag is flying at half-mast at the Town Hall.

Read a joint statement from the Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire on behalf of various civic offices throughout the county

I hosted a proclamation from the Town Hall steps on Sunday from 2.30pm to 2.45pm
