10/06/2019 - Get involved and help us celebrate the Peace Day riots centenary festival
Exactly 100 years after Lutonians famously rioted and burned down the Town Hall, People Power Passion is set to mark the event in dramatic style on 19 July 2019.
A huge line up of some of Luton’s best vocalists, musicians and dancers will entertain on stage in front of the Town Hall. The themes of protest, people power and Luton’s strong history of standing up for their beliefs will be explored through music, dance and projections in a spectacular show beginning at 9pm. A festival of food, drinks and performances will take place throughout the afternoon and into the evening for everyone to enjoy on this historic day right through to the night time show.
Local food businesses and performers are invited to help create the festival atmosphere in the afternoon either by selling food and beverage or by sharing their talent with the crowd as part of the warm-up event.
Cllr Rachel Hopkins, portfolio holder responsible for culture said: “We are very excited about the plans for what promises to be an excellent day and evening. The main event will start at 9pm which reflects the timing of the riots in 1919, but there will be a real buzz in the town with lots going on during the afternoon. Music, food and a festival atmosphere will mean that there will be something for everyone. ”
“We’re very pleased that we can offer the chance for local businesses and amateur performers to come along, get involved and share their talent on the stage”.
There is still time to get involved but the opportunity is limited so please do get in touch as soon as possible and no later than 23 June by emailing [email protected]
