24/09/2020 - Bike to school week 2020

Bike to School Week is running from 28 September to 2 October and is a great opportunity to celebrate cycling to school and promote the positive impact that travelling actively can have on children.

Children, parents and teachers are encouraged to cycle safely on their journeys to and from school and experience the huge benefits that cycling provides, such as increasing road safety awareness, being good for the environment, reducing congestion and increasing mental alertness, positive mood and self-esteem. It also helps to reduce stress and anxiety.

The event is a great chance to encourage children to understand these benefits and inspire them to think about their journeys to and from school, and consider the causes and effects of air pollution in the environment around us.

There are lots of support resources available to assist with organising activities throughout the week, including a free 'Guide to walking, cycling and scooting to school' for parents and engaging activities for teachers to use in the classroom each day. There’s also a Bike to School Week family competition to take part in.

The event is free with no need to register, find out more at: www.sustrans.org.uk/biketoschoolweek.
