Armistice Day - Saturday 11 November 2023
Armistice Day is commemorated every year on 11 November to mark the armistice signed between the allies of World War One (WW1) and Germany. The armistice brought an end to hostilities on the western Front of WW1 and took effect at 11am the morning - the 'eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month' of 1918.
When Armistice Day falls on a Sunday, it's marked as Remembrance Sunday. When it falls on any other day, it's marked with a brief service outside the Town Hall war memorial. At 11am the Last Post will be played before a two minutes’ silence which itself will be concluded by The Reveille.
