Local Pinchpoint Fund bids

In the Autumn Statement last year, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced the creation of a fund to alleviate bottlenecks on local roads.

The fund is worth £170M and we have submitted two bids for removing hold-ups at two key junctions in the town.

The first bid is for improvements to the Kimpton Road / Windmill Road junction. The current mini-roundabout is overcapacity at peak times and future developments (such as Napier Park and Stirling Place will only make the situation worse. The preferred proposal is to realign the southern part of Windmill Road and create a new four leg roundabout.

The second bid is for the section of Dunstable Road between Telford Way/Hatters Way roundabout and the junction with Inkerman Street / Cardiff Road. This is a very busy section of road and the proposal is to move the central reservation to create two northbound lanes and three southbound lanes, and reconstructing the Cardiff Road / Inkerman Street junction.

Further details of both applications can be found in the download section below. A plan of the proposal can be found in Appendix B in both documents.
