People's Park

People's Park has three sections: Bells Close Recreation Ground, which has a slope up to a wooded area at the top of the hill. The woodland then links to Popes Meadow.

People's Park is a County Wildlife Site, as it is home to a rare plant species called the Great Pignut (Latin: Bunium bulbocastinatum). The park has consistently held a national Green Flag award to recognise its quality.

The land forms part of a green chain of parks and open spaces in Luton that includes:

  • Wardown Park
  • Riverside Park - Stockingstone Meadow
  • Riddy Park

Bells Close Recreation Ground

Bells Close Recreation Ground has a modern playground and 'trim trail'. It is popular with footballers and cricketers. The People's Park (Bells Close) Car Park on Havelock Road has 14 spaces, 2 of them reserved for disabled badge holders.

Popes Meadow

Popes Meadow is an open, sloping area of grassland used by sledgers in snowy weather. Luton Borough Council holds its annual fireworks display here in November...
