Symphonia Academica

Symphonia Academica is Bedfordshire's professional orchestra resident at the University of Bedfordshire.

The orchestra comprises some of the country's finest musicians who perform with leading orchestras.

The orchestra has a repertoire ranging from the baroque era to the present day. It has commissioned works from contemporary composers and is proud to have Richard Sisson as its composer-in-association. It has played throughout England, has given a series of concerts in France and performed before the Queen.

Education is a key part of the orchestra's activities. Members of the orchestra have taken master classes for younger musicians and the orchestra frequently performs with talented young performers in its concerts. However, it sees its concerts as a way of giving an insight into its music to all, through having a more conversational presentation, which encourages audiences to enter into its musical world.

The orchestra's principal conductor is David Beaman. Since David graduated from the Royal College of Music as a violinist, pianist and conductor, he has become one of the most sought after and exciting conductors of the younger generation.

The artistic director for the orchestra is Peter Bussereau. Peter turned to music after graduating in mathematics but has a busy life not only directing the Symphonia Academica but also performing as a violin soloist in concerts and recitals, in chamber music and performing with some of the country's leading orchestras.
