Do I need a licence to become a landlord?
In most cases you don't need to have a special licence to become a landlord, but there are exceptions.
If you own or manage a property in Luton and it is:
- occupied by 5 or more tenants, forming 2 or more households, who share common amenities like a bathroom or kitchen etc
or: - if it consists of self-contained flats with more than a third of them let out to tenants on a short term, and where the conversion does not meet the standards of the 1991 building regulations
then the property must have a House in Multiple Occupation licence.
