HMOs - advice for tenants
If you live in a house in multiple occupation (HMO) your landlord must comply with certain standards.
Please ensure:
- that there are an adequate number of amenities, such as toilets, bathrooms, cooking facilities
You can view the minimum requirements by downloading the ‘Amenity standards’ from the bottom of the page - that there are adequate fire precautions, such as fire doors, smoke detectors, alarms.
You can view the minimum requirements by downloading the ‘Guide to fire safety standards for residential properties in Bedfordshire’ from the bottom of the page - that the property is a suitable size and layout for the number of people or occupants living there.
You can view the minimum requirements by downloading the ‘Amenity standards’ from the bottom of the page - that the common parts of the property, such as the staircase, shared lounge, fire escapes fixtures and fittings must be kept in good order.
