Marsh Farm central area redevelopment

Find out how Luton's high rises are transforming
Phase 1 of the redevelopment is now complete with all shops open and all 24 flats occupied.
The shops opened in September and offer local residents and visitors a wide range of goods. The shops are:
  • Churchills: fish and chips
  • Heron Foods: supermarket
  • Lloyds: pharmacy
  • Hardware Buzzar: hardware
  • Ladbrokes: turf accountants
  • Mr S Jagsi: dentist
  • Nisa: supermarket
The market is no longer operational.
Visitors will note the improved landscaping and the outdoor gym equipment provided for local residents.
Now that all shops have moved out of the Purley Centre work has commenced on phase 2 of the redevelopment. This involves the:
  • demolition of the Purley Centre using high reach machines
  • controlling dust using high pressure water sprays and noise nuisance will be monitored
  • restricting work to weekdays between 8am and 5pm
  • crushing and reusing rubble on site wherever possible limiting the need for lorries to remove spoil
The demolition and clearance of the site will be complete in late January/early February 2018.

Following this, work will start on phase 3 – the construction of a further 93 new affordable homes for local people. Planning approval has been sought and a decision is anticipated in January to allow a smooth transition between phases.
