23/04/2010 - Serious Case Review announced into services provided to Michael Gilbert
The Luton Safeguarding Of Vulnerable Adults Board (SOVA) has announced a Serious Case Review into services provided to Michael Gilbert, a 26-year-old man who died in late January 2009.
The review will aim to establish whether there are any lessons to be learned from the circumstances of Mr Gilbert’s tragic death and to see if anything could have been done differently by the local professionals and agencies who work to safeguard vulnerable adults.
SOVA Chair, Professor Michael Preston-Shoot, said: “The purpose of having a Serious Case Review is neither to reinvestigate the case nor to apportion blame.
“The Serious Case Review will look into the effectiveness of multi-agency and individual agency procedures to inform and improve best local practice.
“The review will commission an overview report, which will analyse the findings of contributory reports from agencies in order to make recommendations for future action. An executive summary of this review, which details the major conclusions and the action taken in respect of them, will be published in due course.”
Member agencies of SOVA include Luton Borough Council, Bedfordshire Police, NHS Luton Primary Care Trust, the Luton & Dunstable Hospital, and the Bedfordshire and Luton Mental Health and Social Care Partnership NHS Trust.
The review will also consult with the Luton Safeguarding Children Board.
It is anticipated that the Serious Case Review will commence shortly and be conducted within a specified and tight timeframe over the coming months.
