Luton Smiling Together programme
With the aim of trying to help avoid crisis, we want to give more support, early on, to people with serious mental health conditions.

What's the programme about?
Crisis is distressing and stops people from living their lives the way they want to. It also costs support services a lot of money.
We’re linking council and health data to identify people living in Luton with serious mental health conditions who may be at risk of having a crisis. We want to offer support to people early on to help prevent crisis.
Potential triggers for crisis could be:
- bereavement
- relationship breakdown
- domestic abuse
- financial difficulties
- housing difficulties
A new programme has started where support is provided over a phone call from a trained mental health professional - a ‘case coordinator’. They'll ask how the person is doing and find out if any further support is needed. If help is needed, the link worker will make sure the person gets the help they need.
Your mental health is as important as your physical health
If you or someone you know is in need of mental health support, help is at hand. For links to services that can offer help and advice, please see our physical and mental health page.
