What do Foster Carer Plus carers provide?

You offer a teenager stability, security and practical advice in a nurturing environment where they can be supported at a difficult period in their lives?

Fostering does come with its challenges, the rewards however are immeasurable. You are supporting teenagers to overcome their challenges and feel prepared to go out and take their place the world. Just like us care experience older children and teenagers need to have stable role models in their lives to thrive, so this is where our foster families come in.

What skills will you need?

You will need to demonstrate that you:

  • understand the issues that teenagers are navigating in their daily lives
  • are highly motivated
  • able to work on your own initiative to resolve issues
  • able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • are able to respect and maintain confidentiality
  • are willing to commit to continued personal development

Your role enables teenagers to develop and reach their full potential within a home based family setting. You will advocate on their behalf and support teenagers to develop the skills they will need to take them into adult life.

Your skills and experience will be central to achieving positive outcomes for the teenagers that you care for on a day to day basis.

Our offer to you?

You will be supported to offer family based care, with ongoing supervision from a fostering social worker; training that will support you in developing positive strategies to support the needs of teenager requiring Foster Carer Plus placements. We invest in your own personal development through ongoing support and professional training.

We have a variety of support groups including the Luton Foster Carers Association. Visit our Training and support webpage for more information.

We provide a financial package to meet the needs of the teenager placed with you.

We want our carers to feel supported to inspire and motive the teenagers they support.

The process

You could become an approved Foster Carer Plus carer within 4 months.

This starts with a visit to your home to ensure it is suitable to accommodate a teenager. A variety of checks will be undertaken; you will be supported through an assessment of your skills and experience. You receive training that will provide the foundation skills you will need, all part of the approval process.

Visit our How to become a foster carer webpage for more information.
