Learning Disability Partnership: housing and short stay sub-group

The housing and short stay sub-group meets to make sure all people with learning disabilities have the chance to live in a place they can call ‘home’

The housing and short stay sub-group works closely with housing providers and care providers to make sure there is a choice of good-quality accommodation and short stay services (previously known as ‘respite’), available locally for adults with a learning disability. The sub-group works to ensure that people with a learning disability have all the information they need so they can make their own choices about where they want to live, and that the options available allow people to live as independently as possible. The sub-group also looks at how people can feel safe in both their own home and the community they live in.

Full-time housing options

In Luton there is a range of housing for adults, for example ‘supported living’ where people can live on their own or in shared accommodation, with support to help the person to manage their daily lives, so as to be more independent.

Short stay (‘respite’) housing options

When the carer or a person with a learning disability needs a break, short stay services are available to provide support to the carer and/ or the individual. Luton offers several options which have been developed according to the needs of individuals.

Access to services

Support to find accommodation or access to short stay services is only available to those who meet the eligibility criteria and are referred from the Community Learning Disability Team.
