Other services provided by the Social Care Team
Social Care Team provide other methods of support to children with disabilities and their family.
Home Care
This service is available to children who require lots of care because of their condition. In this service a Home Carer will be allocated to the family usually through an agency to provide personal care to the child e.g. wash, dress, feed. This service is free of charge.
Short term residential respite (short breaks for carers)
Young person between the ages 5-18 years can be offered short-term respite care in local residential accommodation. This aims to give their carers a break and provide the young person with opportunities to enhance the quality of their life.
Long term residential placement
The Social Care Team can arrange care for children and young people with disabilities who can not live with their families. These children may live with foster families, attend a residential school or other specialist homes that can offer care for children with exceptional needs.
Support during school holidays
They can also provide funding to other organisations to offer services to disabled children e.g. holiday play schemes.
To receive any of these services a Social Worker will complete an assessment to explore if the child and the family would benefit. If you feel you would benefit from any of these services, please contact the Social Care Team if you are already receiving a service. Alternatively if you require a new assessment you will need to contact the Initial Assessment Team.
