Council Tax support funding

Luton Council will use funding to reduce bills for current working age and pension age Local Council Tax Support (LCTS) claimants by up to £25.

The government recognises that council tax increases set by local authorities may mean some individuals may struggle to meet council tax payments and has announced additional funding for local authorities to support the most vulnerable households in England.

This funding allows councils to deliver additional support to households already receiving council tax reduction, whilst also providing the flexibility to determine a local approach to support other vulnerable households in their area.

If you are in receipt of Local Council Tax Reduction there is no need for you to contact us as the reduction will be automatically applied to your Council tax bill for 2023-24.

Where your Council Tax Bill for 2023-24 is less than £25, following the application of council tax reduction, then your bill will be reduced to nil.

Where your Council Tax Bill for 2023-24 is nil, following the application of council tax reduction, no reduction will be available and those bills will not be credited.

Any remaining funding will be available to households to claim support, you can make an application online through our Council Tax Exceptional Hardship Scheme.
