Report fraud

Fraud has an impact on the level of council tax, the level of Income tax and the level of resources available to share amongst our community. Those found breaking the law face a criminal conviction.

Fraud is not a victimless crime. It steals your money and can result in those who need essential services losing out to those making false claims. It can take many forms. We currently investigate fraud the following areas:

  • Council tax
Someone pretending to live alone to get a discount, or claiming that their property is occupied by students
  • Housing benefit or council tax support
Someone failing to declare that they work or that a partner lives with them
  • Tenancy
Lying about their circumstances to get accommodation or sub-letting their council property for profit
  • Blue badge
Someone using another person’s badge or pretending to have a condition that they do not really have
  • School admissions
Giving a false home address to get a child into a specific school
  • Social care
Someone lying about how much money/assets they have to avoid paying care fees themselves

If you wish to report a suspected fraud in any of these areas or any other fraud committed against the council please contact:
