Volunteering for Luton Council and our partners

We’re looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to help bring new skills, knowledge and experience into the council and our partner agencies to provide a positive impact in the community.

Developing opportunities for our residents to gain new skills and learning experiences is one of our key priorities and volunteering is seen a great way to achieve this in a number of ways:
We understand that volunteering is a two-way process and that each person has their own reasons and goals for becoming a volunteer, so we’ll work with you throughout your journey to support you to achieve them.

Opportunities with us range from working in adult social care to outdoor events and environmental projects.

As part of the process to become a volunteer, you will be required to attend the following:

Volunteer workshop

This is to give you information about volunteering, the opportunities available, and a chance to ask some questions. You will then be able to complete an application form if you feel that volunteering is for you.

Volunteer generic training

This training will cover Safeguarding, Health and Safety and some of the formal things that will need to be done before you matched to a placement.

DBS check depending on the role

This was formally known as a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check. Not all roles will require this.

What you will be offered as a volunteer

We offer support and training throughout your time as a volunteer with us, including:

  • induction - you should receive an induction at your placement of choice and regular supervision
  • out of pocket expenses - this is things like bus fares and parking fees, plus lunch allowance if your role requires you to work more than five hours
  • training - you will be offered a variety of training through the volunteer team that you can chose to attend if you wish to develop your skills and knowledge

For more information on the dates and locations of the volunteer workshops and training sessions, please see the tabs below.
