Anti-littering strategy

We've adopted a new anti-littering strategy to Keep Luton Tidy.

The initiative includes targeted work on:

  • anti-littering education
  • robust enforcement
  • social responsibility aimed at producers of packaging that becomes litter

To reinforce how serious we take littering in our town, local councillors agreed to increase the fixed penalty for this offence to £150.

People are being are being reminded not to drop litter, especially cigarette butts, but to put it in a bin or take it home.

Officers from the Neighbourhood Enforcement team will be patrolling the town and will issue fines to anyone caught littering.

We want the town to be a great environment for people to visit, live and work in. Encouraging people to make small changes like this will have a major impact on the appearance of our streets.
