Supporting Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa

October’s Hurricane Melissa has had a devastating impact on Jamaica with widespread destruction and displacement across the western region of the island.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected and our communities here in Luton who have connections to the island.

We're supporting relief efforts led by the JN Foundation, a Jamaican government-approved charity which works closely with local and international partners. The charity runs projects and programmes that provide financial and technical help.

How can I offer support?

As part of its ‘I Support Jamaica fund’, the foundation is currently seeking urgent donations of specific essential items which include:

  • non-perishable food items such as tinned corned beef, tuna and sardines and rice, flour, sugar, noodles and pasta - food items should have an expiration date of longer than 3 months
  • tarpaulins, solar lantern or battery-powered lights and batteries
  • personal hygiene products, such as bar soaps, diapers for adults and babies and menstrual products
  • water purifying tablets

Clothes or shoes cannot be accepted at the moment.

See more information on the JN Foundation website.
