Community funding

Luton Rising community fund provides money to a wide range of community groups and organisations in Luton and the surrounding area. We’ve collected some of their stories together to show how vital this financial support is.

London Luton Airport is a key magnet for a wide range of investment, not only in Luton but across the region. It already supports an estimated 27,500 jobs, and generates £1.1 billion economic value every year across Luton, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

Luton Council is the sole shareholder of the airport company, Luton Rising which has a long record of providing financial support for important community activities and services.

This makes the airport vital for the council’s work to improve people’s lives, and bring new opportunity, aspiration and prosperity. Find out more about Luton Rising, and the work it carries out, on the Luton Rising website.

Here you can also find out about the Luton DART fast transit that will greatly improve passenger transfers between Luton Airport Parkway station and the terminal, and onward rail journeys to and from London.

The airport has been an incredible success story, and Luton Rising is now looking to plan for further long-term growth in order to make an even greater positive impact.

We believe it is realistic to be able to use the existing runway to increase the number of passengers to 32 million per year. This will significantly help with the demand that UK aviation as a whole is facing, and bring further benefits and opportunities to Luton and the rest of the three counties, through increased jobs, revenues and economic growth.

We understand that airport operations can bring adverse impacts. Luton Rising will work hard to minimise and mitigate these as the proposals are developed, and has already prepared a new draft sustainability strategy and Green Controlled Growth proposals for the airport.

An ambitious vision like this is complicated. There are legal processes that need to be followed for any planning application of this size, which would be determined by the Government, not the council.

That is why Luton Rising has committed to a full, robust and thorough approach to engagement with all residents and communities.
