Choose cycling this June - Luton Council
We are pleased to be working with Love to Ride this June to encourage people to join Bike Month, a national campaign to help people choose cycling for their daily exercise and travel as an alternative to public transport during the COVID-19 situation.
The aim of the campaign is to help people enjoy the fun and freedom of riding bikes and to help them to access the support they need to ride confidently for transport as we emerge from lockdown. There will be giveaways of brand new bikes and daily spot prizes throughout the month of June and each week one rider will receive £500 to donate to their local Bikes for Key Workers initiative or Coronavirus Community Support group of their choice.
Cllr Paul Castleman, portfolio holder responsible for transport, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to be travelling actively and sustainably when they need to leave the house. Cycling has huge benefits for the immune system, it’s great for our mood and mental health and it enables people to move around whilst maintaining social distancing and keeping traffic moving. It’s also a great way to travel when necessary without using public transport. We hope this free event will inspire people to set a goal, ride and encourage others to take part too.”
