Attractions taster

The tapestry reveals an abundance of entertainment to relax you; unspoilt landscapes rich with wildlife to contemplate; quiet country lanes to cycle or walk; quaint market towns and villages with enchanting gardens and shops in which to browse.

Whatever the weather, your budget, available time or circumstances, Luton and the surrounding area has something to offer for everyone to enjoy.

For history buffs there are two museums, heritage buildings, ancient sites and St Mary's church.

Those with green-fingers or a love of nature will appreciate our landscaped parks, the formal gardens at Stockwood Discovery Centre and the walled garden at Luton Hoo.

The more energetic can ramble through sites of special scientific interest in the beautiful Warden and Gallery Hills, Dunstable Downs or further out into the Chilterns.

Expert staff from the John Dony field centre host walks, talks and exhibitions that bring the countryside to life.

Animal lovers can visit Whipsnade Zoo and Woburn Safari Park for the wild animals. Or how about Woodside Animal Farm where they can pet the domestic breeds and learn about farm animals?

Is shopping your bag? The Mall in the town centre has all the major high street names and thriving indoor market. There are interesting independent stores in the surrounding streets. Plus a vibrant Asian shopping area just a few minutes walk away.

As for sports, you'll be spoilt for choice. Spectators can catch cricket at Wardown Park or a Luton Town FC home game. The fit or want-to-be-fit can find out where to take part in anything from kick-boxing to carom, swimming to cycling, or pool to pilates from Active Luton's leisure Trust.
